Centrelink debt attack: Behind the government's war on the poor

The government launched a Centrelink debt recovery scheme in 2016 that has resulted in tens of thousands of people being sent incorrect debt notices. Up to 90% of the debt notices are incorrect but Centrelink staff are not allowed to fix obvious errors.

Meanwhile, the government is pressing ahead with legislation to give job agencies increased powers to cut people off Centrelink benefits, The attacks on people accessing social security payments are accompanied by media stories demonising particular groups of people.

This forum will discuss what attacks are coming down the line, why is the government doing this and what can we do about it.
