Campaign for Erskineville parks
By Kath Gelber
SYDNEY — The "Save the Erskineville Parks Committee", set up two weeks ago in response to the proposed sale of parkland for urban development, is generating a large amount of community response and support.
Two inner-city parks, well established and containing mature trees, are being put up for sale by the Roads and Traffic Authority. The campaign involves the demand to return the land to the local council and reclaim the land as open space, for use by the community, according to spokesperson Susan Kennett.
At an on-site meeting on July 25, more than 100 people pledged active support for the campaign. A public meeting is planned for July 27. More on-site activities have been planned for Saturday, August 1, at the corner of Albert St and Erskineville Road, Erskineville.
