BRISBANE — Tasmanian Greens Senator Bob Brown, speaking at a meeting on July 20, said that the Coalition government had "boxed itself into a corner" on the sale of Telstra, whereas those opposing privatisation had a clear alternative policy.

"Let's tax the billionaires before we sell off the biggest revenue earner in Australia", Brown said.

Norma Nord, Greens candidate in the by-election campaign for the state seat of Lytton, launched by the meeting, told the audience that south-east Queensland is one of the most heavily polluted areas of Australia. She said that her campaign slogan, "Politics is your business", was an effort to "reach people, to empower people".
