Brisbane: 'Plebiscite? No way! We want equal rights today!'

1000 people marched through the streets behind a banner which read "Safe Schools - Marriage equality - Legalise it now".

The pre-election rally for marriage equality was a vibrant and passionate affair with the unambiguous message: no more delays, we don't want a plebiscite, we want equal marriage now!

Greens senator Larissa Waters got a big cheer when she addressed the crowd along with candidates from other parties who support marriage equality.

There was one minute of silence for the victims of the Orlando shooting, followed immediately by one minute's rage about ongoing homophobia in Orlando and around the world.

The march stopped for a sit down protest at a busy intersection where people chalked messages for equality, human rights and equal love.
