BP rogue web site contest

BP, the world's third largest oil company, has adopted the sun as its new logo and redesigned its web site (<http://www.bp.com>) to make it look like a clean, green environmental organisation. Greenpeace is calling on web designers everywhere to expose BP's hypocrisy.

Enter Greenpeace's "Rogue site contest" by producing a mock version of BP's home page which reveals more truth about the company, but preserves its look and feel. Greenpeace will showcase the best examples on <http://greenpeace.org>.

Greenpeace has other rogue web sites pointing out the environmental problems of companies such as Coca Cola (<http://www.cokespotlight.org>), but says, "The sheer scale of BP's hypocrisy is just too much for us to handle by ourselves. We need some help."

The new image comes just two weeks after BP announced a 40% increase in its spending on oil and gas development. BP continues development on Northstar, which, if completed, will be the first offshore oil development in the Arctic Ocean.

Entries to the rogue site contest must be received by Friday, August 18. All files should sent in a zipped archive to <stop.northstar@ams.greenpeace.org>, with the subject "Rogue Site Contest Entry".

The designers of the top three rogue sites will receive a "Stop Northstar" T-shirt and a "greenpeace.org" cap. Visit <http://greenpeace.org/arctic> or contact Kevin Jardine at <kjardine@ams.greenpeace.org> for more information.
