Aretha Franklin — Don't miss this special about the greatest soul singer ever. This program has all the hits: "Respect", "Dr Feelgood", "Chain of Fools". Unfortunately, there are also some segments that will make you cringe, like tributes from George Michael and footage of Aretha performing for Bill Clinton. SBS, Friday, February 24, 8.30pm.

Movie: The Frontier (1991) — A Chilean film about a leftist sentenced to banishment on a remote island in the far south because he signed a petition about the treatment of another political prisoner. From Spain. SBS, Friday, February 24, 11.35pm.

The Warthog and the Tea Bag — Next time you slurp on that nice hot cuppa, spare a thought for the humble warthog. This ugly little critter is being forced to flee as more and more of Kenya's wilderness is converted into land for cash crops like coffee and tea. SBS, Saturday, February 25, 2pm.

Resurrection of Reverend Moon — How the reactionary Reverend Moon and his Unification Church have emerged as a major media, financial and political network stretching from Korea and Japan to the United States. SBS, Saturday, February 25, 3pm.

Sartre — The first of three episodes on the life of Jean-Paul Sartre, France's most eminent philosopher. SBS, Sunday, February 26, 3.30pm.

The Struggle for Russia — The first of a two-part documentary. An in-depth portrait of Boris Yeltsin's presidency, Russia's economic and social crisis and the failure of Yeltsin's "shock therapy" economic programs. It spans the period between the failed August 1991 coup and rise of ultranationalist Vladimir Zhirinovsky in the December 1993 elections. SBS, Tuesday, February 28, 8.30pm.

Movie: Angry Earth (Llid y Ddaear) (1989) — A Welsh film about 110-year old Gwen as she recounts her life against a background of the bitter class struggle of the coal mines. SBS, Tuesday, February 28, 9.30pm.

Something to sing about — The celebrated Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir is followed over the course of 12 months. With a repertoire that ranges from Gershwin to 15th century motets, from spirituals to ABBA, the 100-strong choir won the 1992 Australian Choral Championships. ABC TV, Wednesday, March 1, 9.30pm.
