Seaholme resident George Said was a refugee from the 1956 Egypt Suez Canal crisis. Given 10 days to leave the country, scared and broke George and his young family arrived in London with two suitcases and five worthless Egyptian pounds. Then began a journey of following the dream to live in Australia. Arriving in 1962 with his wife Maroula and two daughters, George began his involvement in Australian multiculturalism and an interest in the welfare of refugees. 6.30pm. Altona Library, 123 Queen St, Altona.
