Since the late 1990s, the United States has funnelled billions of dollars in aid to Colombia, ostensibly to combat the illicit drug trade and State Department-designated terrorist groups. The result has been a spiral of violence that continues to take lives and destabilise Colombian society. Speakers: Oliver Villar (lecturer in politics at Charles Sturt University; for the past decade his research has been devoted to this book); Drew Cottle (senior lecturer in politics at the University of Western Sydney).
6:30pm (for 7pm start). New International Bookshop, Trades Hall, 54 Victoria St, Carlton South.
