Bigots seek state funding

By Rose Matthews

HOBART — A group cynically calling itself "For a Caring Tasmania" (FACT) has formed to campaign against homosexuality. It originates in conservative elements of the church.

FACT chair David Fry alleges there is a concerted program by adult homosexuals to bring young children into a homosexual lifestyle.

The group has asked for state government funding to enable it to show homosexuals the error of their ways and their "true heterosexuality".

Groups opposing the funding include Family Planning Tasmania, Tasmanian Council of Social Services, Heterosexuals Unafraid of Gays and the Gay and Lesbian Rights Group.

Rodney Croome from the Tasmanian Gay and Lesbian Rights Group said, "Groups like FACT foster a climate where people can display bumper stickers saying 'Register Poofters not Guns before They Kill Us All', as are now being seen around Launceston".
