Baraka
A film by Ron Fricke
Reviewed by Andrea Carroll

"Baraka" is an ancient Sufi word meaning a blessing or the breath/essence of life. Through a series of stunning images, the film explores the theme of the essential unity of the cosmos and humankind's search for meaning within it.

The film is stunning for its cinematography and soundtrack. Although there is no verbal narration, the film is a portrayal of the rich diversity of human existence.

Throughout the film, one is aware of the ingenuity and creativity of human beings and the beauty of this planet. Although darker images of human life are presented, the dignity of the human subjects is respected.
