Two days after a powerful and emotional rally outside the Kangaroo Point detention centre, police moved in to break up a pro-refugee protest camp on June 15.
Two people were arrested and many more were issued move-on orders, but the blockade was back up and "bigger than ever" that same evening, according to organisers.
At least 100 people showed up within an hour to offer support to campaigners.
For more than five days, activists have maintained a full-time presence at the detention facility to prevent any further transfer of refugees from the hotel to the higher security and less accessible Brisbane Immigration Transit Accommodation detention centre, near Brisbane airport.
Despite police actions, activists managed to prevent any vehicles from entering or leaving the compound without being inspected to ensure refugees were not being removed, according to a blockade update post on the Refugee Solidarity Brisbane/Meanjin Facebook page.
Human rights supporters are encouraged to spend time at the blockade site to ensure its success.
