Activists picket Australia House

LONDON — Human rights activists on July 9 began 24-hour vigil outside Australia House in protest at human rights abuses at the Woomera refugee detention centre. Four hunger strikers positioned themselves in front of the building. The protest was maintained in defiance of police threats to remove the demonstrators on the basis that their presence constituted an "intrusion into the dignity of the building" — BY GUIDO AND MARTIN.
