Activists from the Stop North East Link Alliance rallied in Templestowe, Melbourne, against the expansion of the North East Link (NEL) project on March 13.

The NEL will cost $16 billion and will be the biggest road project in Victorian history.

Activists have been campaigning for better public transport to ease congestion on roads. They argue the project will intensify road noise in residential areas, increase air pollution and destroy open green spaces, including removing at least 26,000 trees.
