Colombia film launched

SYDNEY — Around 70 people packed the Chippendale Resistance Centre for the premiere of the documentary Colombia — Peace at What Price? here on February 22. The film was presented by the Committee in Solidarity with Latin America and the Caribbean. The film exposes Washington's Plan Colombia.

Participants, including representatives from Sydney's Colombian community, decided to call a meeting to establish a solidarity movement with Colombia. The meeting will be on March 8, 6.30 pm at the Resistance Centre, 23 Abercrombie St, Chippendale. Phone 9690 1977.

IWD fundraiser a big success

BRISBANE — On February 17, the Terminus Hotel in South Brisbane rocked to the sounds of local women's bands Tufnall, Gazoonga Attack and cabaret act Twang. Princess Pincushion (which includes members of the socialist youth organisation Resistance) made their debut. Funds raised went to help organise the local International Women's Day march. More than 250 women and their supporters danced into the early hours of the morning. The IWD march, rally and festival will take place on Saturday, March 10, 1.30pm, in the King George Square.

US air raids condemned

SYDNEY — A small crowd gathered outside the US consulate in Martin Place here on February 23 to protest the United States' bombing of Iraq.

The demonstration was called by the Worker Communist Party of Iraq and also heard speakers from the Worker Communist Party of Iran and the Democratic Socialist Party. Calls were made for the immediate lifting of the sanctions that have crippled Iraq and impoverished its people.
