Brisbane Environmental Youth Alliance, after the very successful EYA national conference in Melbourne, has decided to take up the main campaign of the conference, resource security legislation. At its last meeting on Friday, April 19, the group decided to call a meeting for May 4 on the issue. The meeting is aptly titled "Resource Insecurity".

In early 1990, the Women's Abortion Rights Campaign decided to give the newly elected Goss state Labor government a year to repeal all abortion laws. Some Labor women felt that, through lobbying, they could achieve their aims without much fuss. The year is up, and Goss ministers claim that abortion is not on the government's agenda. A number of women met on Monday, April 15 to revive the Women's Abortion Campaign (WAC). WAC aims to be action oriented and to put abortion back on the government's agenda. Plans are under way for a picket of Labor women's conferences and to hold a major rally.

The Salvadoran community is preparing itself for a tour by Nidia Diaz. Diaz is the highest ranking FMLN commander ever to visit Australia. The organising committee has been meeting regularly and has organised an extensive itinerary for the weekend of May 11-12, including a public meeting and reception.

The Committee in Solidarity with Latin America and the Caribbean held its AGM on Monday, April 8. Roberto Jorquera is the new secretary/treasurer and is now the person to ring if you want to know about CISLAC. The group started plans for the annual solidarity cabaret in July. There was also discussion about a national consultation on the May 18-19 weekend in Melbourne and a Latin American conference here in August.

Brisbane branch of the Campaign to Expose the Frame-up of Tim Anderson met on April 4. CEFTA will launch the book The Incredible Exploding Man [see page 21] on Friday, May 3. The following night, CEFTA will hold a benefit night for Tim Anderson at the Celtic Club. David Bradury's video, Frame-Up Take 2, will be shown.
