8 Gang with Mao

By Stephen Robson

PERTH — Over the school holiday period, the Photography Gallery of Western Australia organised an introductory photography course for eight high school students.

This led to the exhibition of the work created by the students — 8 Gang with Mao. Most of the students focus on various scenes including some from York, south of Perth.

For me the most striking were those by Natascha Heuer, a student at Hollywood High, partly because her work concentrated on young people. Her Lost I and II includes a woman siting at the bottom of the stairs, the walls covered with graffiti. In another, the woman, in foetal position, is hidden in a wardrobe, perhaps attempting to escape from society.
