The WA government has announced changes to local government boundaries that from 1 July 2015 may dissolve Fremantle in an involuntary amalgamation with the City of Melville, Town of East Fremantle and parts of City of Canning (see map below). This is illogical and unacceptable. The City of Fremantle supports extended boundaries to create a greater Fremantle based on a sensible community of interest and Fremantle as a strategic activity centre. We strongly oppose the proposed merger and we reject forced amalgamation. Our community survey indicated that this is the clear view of our community.
