Injustice Queensland Style: Learning the lessons from Palm Island!

It’s almost six years since the death in custody on Palm Island of Mulrunji whose “crime” was to comment on an arrest, sing a song and continue on his way when told to do so.
What happened is now well known - a coronial inquiry found that police officer, Chris Hurley, struck Mulrinji with such force, the blow was fatal. Hurley received compensation and a promotion while well respected community leader, Lex Wotton, was jailed.
After 19 months behind bars, Lex is now free, but politically muzzled.

Whether it is protesting right-wing governments, leading student demonstrations or sitting in for Land Rights, young people have always taken up the leads in activism that has fought for social justice. However, activism is more than just waving placards and shouting. A lot of thought, organisation and effort goes into building the movements that we need to win change in society, and secure a system based on democracy, ecological sustainability and egalitarianism.
