The establishment media in the West gave a lot of coverage to critics of Cuba in the wake of the July 11 protests there. A lot of it was misinformation and distortion. Since then, the media has resumed its usual approach of ignoring developments in Cuba.

In this episode of the Green Left Show Helen Yaffe (Senior lecturer at University of Glasgow), Sujatha Fernandes (Professor of Sociology at the University of Sydney) and Ian Ellis-Jones (retired law lecturer) discuss the meaning and character of the July protests and the situation Cuba since then.

Helen Yaffe's book We Are Cuba! How a Revolutionary People Have Survived in a Post-Soviet world is available here. Sujatha Fernandes' The Cuban Hustle: Culture, politics, everyday life is available here. Ian Ellis-Jones' new pamphlet is available for free download from here.
