Radio highlights

Radio National celebrates 100 years of commercial film making — Over the May 13-14 weekend, film buffs and others will have a field day (field weekend?). Programs include: The declining importance of the local cinema in country towns, May 13, 6am; Film in the Asia/Pacific region, Indian Pacific, May 13, 8am; Women in film history, Women Out Loud, May 13, 5pm; Marcia Langton looks at indigenous film makers and how communities are putting film and video to use, Awaye, May 13, 6pm; Film in the Balkans, The Europeans, May 14, 1.30pm; The violence in film debate, The Moral Map, May 14, 6pm.

In Sickness and in Health — Behind the politics of waiting lists, hospital staffing and Medicare levies lie ethical and moral questions about the nature of public health care and the values which drive it. ABC Radio National, Sunday, May 14, 7.10am (repeated Wednesday, May 17, 7.10pm).

Sunday Concert: Ladysmith Black Mambazo — South Africa's popular a cappella choir. Ladysmith in KwaZulu/Natal is the choir's home town, and the music they sing is called mbube — traditional Zulu songs, religious songs and songs of struggle. It developed in the mine hostels where musical instruments were banned by the mining companies. ABC Radio National, Sunday, May 14, 4.05pm.
