International solidarity in Adelaide

ADELAIDE — International solidarity activists here celebrated May Day at a dinner hosted by the Democratic Socialist Party on May 5.
Sixty people gathered at the Resistance Centre to toast workers' struggles around the globe. Activists from Aksi — Indonesia Action Solidarity, Bougainville Action Group, Committees in Solidarity with Central America and the Caribbean, Australian Aid for Ireland, the Campaign for an Independent East Timor and a representative of the African National Congress attended.
A feature of the evening was a speech and performance of songs and poetry by the Buklod Kababaihang Filipina Group Ensemble, which highlighted the plight of Filipina women as overseas contract workers, mail-order brides and immigrants.
The dinner also launched a campaign to expose the links between the ACTU and the government-run union in Indonesia, the SPSI. Any unionist wanting to support the campaign can contact Aksi on (08) 231 6982.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
