Tranby College seeks friends
SYDNEY — Tranby Aboriginal Co-operative College in inner city Sydney is to launch a "Five by Five" campaign on August 5, which aims to raise $5 million in $5 per week contributions over five years to enable the college to achieve independence from government funding and therefore curriculum control. The launch will take place at a dinner on Friday, August 5.
The college, established in 1958, is the first residential college to provide education specifically by and for Aboriginal and Islander people. It has also provided post-secondary education for students from Papua New Guinea, the Solomons, Fiji and Aoteoroa.
It currently runs accredited courses including Tertiary Education Preparation Certificate, Certificate of Adult Basic Education and Aboriginal studies. It also offers Aboriginal studies courses for non-Aboriginals.
The college works on and teaches the principles of cooperatives. Its premises have been used by other institutions such as the University of New South Wales Social Work Department, Milperra College of Advanced Education and Australian International Development Assistance Bureau. It is currently working on becoming the first accredited, independent Aboriginal-Islander university.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
