A Song for Cuba

SYDNEY — The committee "A Song for Cuba" is organising a cultural artistic festival which will take place September 20-25 in various venues here.

The purpose of the event is to raise funds for the worldwide campaign "A Glass of Milk for a Cuban Child", launched in response to the scarcity of foodstuffs in Cuba as a result of the strict trade embargo implemented for the last 34 years by the US government. This embargo has recently been tightened in an effort to bring down the Cuban government.

The festival will include music, painting, theatre, dance, video and handcrafts. It will open with an art exhibition at the Waterside Workers Federation, 61-63 Sussex Street, on Tuesday, September 20, beginning at 7.30pm, and concluding on the weekend with a carnival at the Addison Road Community Centre, 142 Addison Road, Marrickville.

Both Australian and Latin groups will be performing, with dance, poetry and workshops. On the Saturday evening there will be a Caribbean Dance, starting at 7.30pm in the main hall at Addison Road.
