Indigenous festival in Sydney

The second annual Nambundah festival of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts, to be held in Sydney September 26-October 9, aims to present the talent and diversity of indigenous artists to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and to the wider community. "Nambundah" is from the Bundjalung dialect, meaning "of our land".

Festival activities will encompass music, dance, cabaret, comedy, theatre, film, forums, traditional food, exhibitions and readings from writers and poets. Participants will be entertained by well-known national artists like Tiddas, Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter, Bangarra Dance Theatre and writer Ruby Langford Ginibi. The festival will also include NSW regional artists whose opportunities to perform to a wider audience can be limited by finances.

The festival will take place mainly at the Belvoir Street Theatre, although the coincidence of the knockout stage of the Aboriginal rugby league competition means that sports events at Redfern and Erskineville ovals may become part of the festival.
