Power station flouted pollution law
Power station flouted pollution law
By Bill Mason
BRISBANE — State officials permitted the government-owned Gladstone power station to pollute the area for 18 years, without effective controls, documents obtained by the Courier-Mail have revealed.
The report, published on October 29, showed that the power station, Queensland's largest, broke air pollution limits for up to 40 days a year while run by the Electricity Commission.
The station has now been sold to Comalco for $1.7 billion.
Although local residents complained about pollution breaches for years, they could never get access to records. The plant had never been prosecuted throughout this time.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
