Year 5
This is the last issue of Green Left Weekly that will be published in 1994. With this issue, Green Left completes its fourth year of independent, progressive and professional production. This is a feat that we should all be proud of: those of us who help produce the paper, those of us who help circulate the paper and those of us who read the paper.
In a few weeks, Green Left will begin to publish for its fifth year. This will also be something we should all feel very proud of. Few independent political newspapers of Green Left's quality have lasted such a distance.
More remarkable to note is that Green Left has continued to publish for four years without corporate or government money. The (meagre) resources Green Left has been able to accumulate have been provided by you — the readers and supporters of Green Left.
In our fifth year, Green Left will be no less reliant on your support. We will be asking you to subscribe to the paper. We will want you to donate to our 1995 fund appeal. And we will want you to help distribute and write for the paper.
Over the next six weeks or so, the presses will be silent. This does not mean that Green Left will be on holiday. We'll be improving, updating and refurbishing, where we can, to ensure an even better paper in 1995.
You can help get Green Left off to a great start for the new year. Why wait till the first issue to send that article or donation? Why miss the first issue? — subscribe now. After four years, Green Left is an institution; play your part in making it stronger. Green Left Weekly — it's your newspaper. n

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
