Greens launch campaign for Central
Greens launch campaign for Central
By Maurice Sibelle
BRISBANE — Fifty people attended the February 22 launch of the Greens campaign for the Brisbane City Council elections seat of Central. The Greens are running Willy Bach, a hairdresser, who has been active in the campaign for free speech in the Queen St Mall.
Bach who has a salon in the mall, was one of 14 candidates in the 1991 Green Alliance campaign which contested the Brisbane City Council elections.
Speakers at the launch included Jill Jordan, Caloundra City councillor, Drew Hutton, lord mayoral candidate in the 1991 elections, and author Helen Demidenko.
After the launch, Bach told Green Left, "I aim to beat David Hinchcliffe [the sitting member], not just to change his agenda. I offer the people of Central the opportunity to experience genuine representation and a very consultative style of administration.
"I will be encouraging the resident action groups to expand their activity and have more say in the running of their localities", he concluded.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
