Striking a nerve
With his latest Looking Out column, Brandon Astor Jones appended a small note. It requested that his subscription to Green Left Weekly be sent care of his attorney in future.
It seems that Jones' column of February 2, entitled "The keepers and the kept", struck a nerve with the prison authorities, who responded by withholding his copy of the paper.
Despite its pretensions to uphold and defend human rights, the practice of the US government has been the opposite. From its atrocities in Iraq, to invasions of Panama and Grenada, to the very treatment of its own citizens, the US displays very little respect for human rights at all.
To, regular Green Left readers this probably comes as no surprise. Green Left has consistently exposed the abuses of the US government, along with the Australian and other governments across the world.
Now Green Left Weekly has struck a nerve with a small section of US officialdom. It will continue — with your support — to strike such nerves.
Green Left Weekly does not pander to the interests of big business or petty administration. It stands on its record of independence and openness. So how can you help?
Writing, distributing, subscribing, donating to or reading. Green Left is your window to the real world. Green Left Weekly — it's your striking a nerve newspaper.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
