True Stories: Angst — This episode focuses on three Jewish comedians whose parents are concentration camp survivors. It combines interviews, glimpses of personal lives of the performers and excerpts from their performances interwoven with commentary from experts in Jewish humour and psychologists who specialise in treating syndromes suffered by children of survivors. ABC, April 24, 8.30pm.
Movie: Toubab Bi — A sensitive look at an encounter between black African and white European cultures. Soriba arrives in Paris to study cinema after leaving his home in Senegal. Confused and homesick in an alien culture, he takes the opportunity to seek out his childhood friend who has not been seen for seven years. SBS, Sunday, April 24, 9:30pm.
Documentary series: Maiden Voyages — A six-part series which covers places from Ghana to northern Australia. It follows the journeys and experiences of women from all walks of life as they discover different parts of the world. SBS, Monday, April 25, 8pm.
Movie: Friends — Set in contemporary Johannesburg, this story tells of three women — one Black, one Afrikaans and one English — who share a friendship. Events come to a head as Sophie, a librarian by day and an activist by night, brings danger and deceit to their shared home. SBS, Monday, April 25, 9.30pm.
The Cutting Edge: Backs Against the Wall — Despite a supposedly pro-gay rights president in the White House, America's homosexual community faces a strong, anti-gay backlash. SBS, Tuesday, April 26, 8.30pm.
About us: An African Outside the Corral — A portrait of C.F. Beyers Naude, one of the white South African clergymen involved in the struggle against apartheid. Thrown out the Dutch Reformed Church for criticising apartheid as inhuman, unchristian and unjust, Naude was considered a traitor. He suffered many personal tragedies, notably the death of his close friend Steve Biko. SBS, Wednesday, April 27, 8.30pm.
Documentary: Oceans of Wealth — As the question of energy becomes more complex, both in terms of availability and impact on the environment, this documentary looks at oceans as a vast energy source. SBS, Saturday, April 30, 2.55pm.
