Young people speak out against budget

BRISBANE — Seventy young people picketed on May 16 outside the Greek Club, where Prime Minister Keating was addressing a meeting. The picket was against the 1994 federal budget's plans to place young people in training schemes on below-award wages.

Bernard Wunsch, a member of Resistance, said, "What the proposals mean is that young people are being scapegoated for the unemployment crisis.

"The government needs to start providing real solutions and creating real jobs. Instead of serving the interests of the big business community, it needs to start representing the majority of the population."

The picket was part of continuing actions against the budget. Two weeks ago 150 young people here were involved in a rally and march against the unemployment white paper.
