WA Greens meet
WA Greens meet
By Frank Noakes
PERTH — About 30 members and supporters of the Greens (WA) met at the scenic Lake Leschenaultia Tea Rooms, near Perth, on September 8 to discuss the recent national green party meeting held in Sydney.
Differing assessments were given by the two representatives from Western Australia to the Sydney meeting, with discussion revealing strong opposition to full proscription of members of other political parties.
During the meeting it was revealed that the Greens (WA) cannot comply with the instructions from the Sydney meeting to introduce full proscription by February 18, 1991. This comes about because of a merger agreement that brought four groups together to form the Greens (WA).
The merger agreement, which was signed by some of the same people now urging full proscription, allows specified people from other political parties to be and remain members of the Greens (WA) under a "grandparent" clause.
The merger document further states that where that agreement differs from the Greens (WA) constitution, the merger agreement shall prevail.
It now appears that the conveners of the national meetings may have to accept the Greens (WA) grandparent clause or form a national party without them.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
