Looking to ACTU congress
Looking to ACTU congress
By Barry Healy
SYDNEY — Forty rank and file trade unionists met in Newtown Community Centre here on June 19 as part of national preparations for the ACTU congress scheduled for later this year.
Activists from various unions described the effects of enterprise bargaining and other ACTU policies in their areas. Discussion of a Charter of Workers Rights to be presented to the ACTU was initiated and plans were made for a lobby of the congress.
Meeting convener Phil Sandford, an activist in the Public Sector Union, expressed satisfaction with the attendance and discussion. "We'll be meeting again on July 17", he said. "Anyone wanting to oppose what the ACTU leadership is up to should attend."

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
