Ecopolitics VII at Griffith

Ecopolitics VII, to be held at Griffith University July 2-4, will have a strong emphasis on global environmental issues and on the links between the environmental, peace, women's and indigenous movements.

The conference will bring together activists, academics, students and community groups from around the country and will feature a number of highlights.

These include a public forum by Salvadoran development activist Dr Ricardo Navarro. Navarro is the president and executive director of CESTA, the Salvadoran Centre for Appropriate Technology. Founded in 1980, CESTA undertakes participatory projects with poor communities, tackling environmental, social and economic problems which are of immediate concern to those communities.

Since 1991 Navarro has been the general coordinator of the Ecological Forum, a federation of 105 social and ecological institutions whose objective is to coordinate efforts to implement countrywide ecological recovery programs.

Ecopolitics VII aims to review the progress of environmental politics and policy since the 1980s and to focus on future strategies for political and social change.
