Inside Indonesia
Inside Indonesia turns ten
The tenth anniversary of the important Australian publication Inside Indonesia was celebrated in Melbourne on October 3 with the release of issue number 36.
The celebration was held together with the opening of an exhibition of photographs of Indonesia by Sandy Scheltema at the Panorama Centre for Contemporary Art.
An important feature of the evening was the award of the first Inside Indonesia Human Rights Award to the Solidarity Committee for Marsinah, a woman factory worker and labour activist who was brutally murdered after participating in a strike in May for implementation of the basic wage of $1.50 a day.
The award symbolised the seriousness with which Inside Indonesia has publicised struggles by workers, farmers and political, human rights and liberation activists throughout Indonesia since its inception 10 years ago.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
