Brewery to sack 200
Brewery to sack 200

ADELAIDE — New Zealand brewer Lion Nathan continued its national round of attacks on workers when it announced plans to retrench 200 of the 500 workers at South Australian Brewing.
After refusing the initial retrenchment package for nearly a week, workers unanimously agreed on October 21 to accept a new deal. The new package increased their pay-out from the original 30 to 45 weeks pay and from three to four weeks' pay for every year, including five weeks' pay in lieu of notice.
This round of sackings follows similar attacks by Lion Nathan at Swan in Perth, XXXX in Brisbane and Tooheys in Sydney.
It also follows assurances in August from Premier Lyn Arnold that no job cuts would result from Lion Nathan's takeover of the company.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
