Appeal for delegates to African conference
The Melbourne-based Union for Democracy and Development in Kenya (UDD Kenya) is calling for donations to help fund two delegates from their organisation in Australia to attend a pan-African conference in Uganda on December 12-15.
Otieno Ochieng, acting secretary-general of UDD Kenya, described the aims of the conference as "reviving the pan-Africanism that existed in the 1960s".
The conference aims to address the issues such as democracy, human rights, economic development, AIDS and African unity.
Human rights and social justice issues which the UDD Kenya will be raising at the conference, won't be solved without addressing the question of "Western aid and Western influence in Africa. Dictators like Moi in Kenya and Banda in Malawi only exist because of Western support", says Ochieng.
It is important that as many progressive African groups as possible are represented at the conference. Donations can be sent to: UDD Kenya, 9/271a Williams Road, South Yarra Vic 3141. Ph (03) 824 2562; fax (03)827 9995.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
