Radio highlights

Radio Skid Row-Koori Radio 2RSR-FM radiothon — Continuing until December 4, Sydney's inner city public radio station 2RSR-FM is holding its annual radiothon. Radiothon week will feature extra special programming, give-aways and prizes for new subscribers. Women on the Line presents Working Women — Melbourne's 3CR (885-AM) continues its series on the work of Australian women in the '90s. Every Wednesday, 5.30 p.m., until December 22 (repeated every Monday at 10 a.m.). Women on the Line is also broadcast on public radio stations throughout Australia. Indian Pacific: War in Sri Lanka — A special feature on the civil war in Sri Lanka. Over the past 10 years, fighting between the government in Colombo and the separatist Tamil Tiger guerillas has cost tens of thousands of lives and made hundreds of thousands homeless — yet there is no international attention to the conflict and very little attempt to mediate the dispute. Presented by Peter Mares, who has just returned from his second visit to Sri Lanka. ABC Radio National, Saturday, December 4, 7.30 a.m. (repeated Monday December 6, 11.05 a.m.).

Sunday Concert: In Good Company — In recent years there has been a steady increase of interest in choral and a cappella singing in Australia. This concert features the Cafe of the Gate Of Salvation and the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir, performing together for the first time. ABC Radio National, Sunday, December 5, 4.05 p.m.

Play of the week: The Dead Boy — A radio play by Rod Moncrieff. In a bush town, an Aboriginal boy has died in mysterious circumstances. A coronial inquiry is under way, and the town has a brief moment in the spotlight. But the glare also highlights events which the town would prefer to leave in the dark.
