The Palestine solidarity group Students for Palestine organised a successful fundraising dinner at the Rockdale Town Hall in Sydney's south on July 24. Indigenous activist Jenny Munro delivered a welcome to country to kick off a fabulous night of entertainment, food, culture and fundraising.

More than 200 people attended the event. Students for Palestine was formed after Israel's massacre in Gaza in January.

Professor John Macdonald from the University of Western Sydney spoke as an eyewitness to Israel's destruction. He is involved in a public heath project that requires him to often visit Palestine. Australian political rap band The Brothahood gave a great performance from their new album, which features tracks about Palestine.

A range of Middle Eastern dishes were served and a raffle was drawn for a prize basket worth more than $150.

The event raised $3244.75. The proceeds of the night will be split between the ongoing Students for Palestine campaigns, the University of Gaza reconstruction fund and to support the campaign calling for boycotts, divestment and sanctions against Israel.

Students for Palestine plans to organise more events to keep the issue fresh in the public's mind.

The group has organised a rally at 5.30pm on September 25 at Sydney Town Hall to commemorate the Israeli massacres of Palestinians in the Shatila and Sabra refugee camps in 1982.
