On November 1, 50 people rallied in Hyde Park to protest the Australian Federal Police's (AFP) role in training the Burmese police force. The rally was called by the Australian Coalition for Democracy in Burma.

The group's secretary, Maung Maung Than, said: "Attorney-General Philip Ruddock must act immediately to withdraw AFP personnel from Burma and stop Australia being part of the dictatorship's ongoing suppression of the Burmese people." The protesters then marched to the AFP's Sydney offices.

Another rally for democracy in Burma will be held on November 10 at noon at Sydney Town Hall.
