Star City workers strike for wage justice

SYDNEY — Workers at the Star City Casino continued their campaign for wage justice by striking over January 30–31. The workers have now voted against accepting the casino's paltry 2% pay rise offer three times.

The workers have been negotiating with management for a new enterprise agreement for more than eight months. Industrial action was taken by staff in gaming, housekeeping, public area, security, food and beverage and facilities management. Barbecues have kept morale high.

The industrial action follows a strike on New Years Day. The workers are members of the Liquor, Hospitality and Miscellaneous Workers Union (LHMU).

The top executives of the casino are paid $2.6 million. The revenue for the casino for the last quarter was up 11.6%, and $575 million is being forked out on renovations to the facility.
