'Coal trains must be stopped for good!'
South Australia's Climate Camp took place at Warren Gorge, near Port Augusta, over September 24-27. The camp targeted two ageing brown coal-fired power stations — which are among the most polluting in Australia — the Northern and Playford B plants.
On September 26, 50 protesters gathered outside the temporary fence that was erected around the power plants, demanding urgent action on climate change.
Coal trains to and from the power stations were cancelled for the weekend. Ruth Ratcliffe, from Adelaide's Climate Emergency Action Network (CLEAN), told Green Left Weekly: "CLEAN endorsed a peaceful protest for 10am.
"We heard that some protesters were going to attempt to access the coal trains. In the interest of public safety, we asked that the trains be stopped for the weekend, and we're happy that this has been done.
"We don't just want to stop coal trains for the weekend, we want to stop them for good."

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
