Wildcat strikes by British oil workers

"Hundreds of workers at sites up and down the country have launched unofficial action over the last two weeks in support of 650 colleagues at Total Lindsey Oil Refinery who were dismissed", Sky News said on June 25.

The workers had been sacked for taking strike action. Sky News said up to 4000 workers at "power stations and oil and gas terminals have been taking unofficial action this week".

Negotiations between Total, private contractors and union representatives took place on June 23, but Sky News said there was no resolution.

"Unions are demanding the reinstatement of the sacked workers and guarantees of no victimisation of activists involved in sympathy strikes, as well as jobs for 51 employees laid off at Lindsey earlier this month in a move that triggered the dispute."
