Tamils join May Day
SYDNEY— Two thousand people rallied in Hyde Park on May 3 to mark May Day. The crowd included contingents from trade unions, left-wing organisations and progressive campaign groups.
Four hundred people from the Tamil community participated, carrying the red flags bearing the tiger emblem of Tamil Eelam.
Speakers included Hannah Middleton from the Sydney Peace Foundation and the Communist Party of Australia; Simon Flynn, NSW secretary of the Fire Brigade Employees Union; David Shoebridge from the Greens and state Labor MP Verity Firth. Colin Drane, coordinator of anti-privatisation campaign group Power to the People, chaired the rally.

"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
