Tax office protest rallies
Fifteen hundred Australian Taxation Office (ATO) workers protested outside their workplaces around the country on May 7.
The rallies, organised by the Community and Public Sector Union (CPSU), highlighted threats to jobs and working conditions in the ATO. ATO management has prepared a document, the Operations Business Model, that proposes replacing many full-time, permanent workers with "non-ongoing", outsourced and part-time workers.
9point = It is also taking a hard line in negotiations on a new agency agreement, trying to reduce workers' rights in areas such as leave and rostering.
The rallies passed a motion demanding ATO management makes an agreement with the CPSU guaranteeing "job security, no cuts to conditions, and a fair pay rise".

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
