Tamils boost May Day rally
An estimated 1000 people from unions and migrant communities marched through Melbourne on May 3 to mark May Day, the international day of workers.
A very large and vibrant contingent from the Tamil community boosted the size of the protest considerably. They called for an immediate ceasefire and an end to Sri Lanka's brutal war against the Tamil people.
The speakers included Michael Shaik from Australians for Palestine; Len Cooper, divisional president of the Communication Electrical and Plumbing Union (Communications Division); and Sivakumar from the Tamil community, who focused on the need for international solidarity with oppressed workers and peoples.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
