Working 'in the interests of humanity'
PERTH — "The Cuban people work in the interests of humanity. They do not work only for themselves, but for the wellbeing of the people of the world", Hilda Chacon, Asia-Pacific representative of the Cuban Federation of Workers, told an audience of around 30 at an Australia-Cuba Friendship Society function on August 18.
Chacon was commenting on the Cuba-Timor Leste health cooperation program, depicted in Tim Anderson's inspiring film The Doctors of Tomorrow, which was screened before her speech.
Cuba's union movement has continually worked for improved conditions for Cuban workers, she said. For example, the union federation is currently seeking time off on full pay for Cuban workers to build their own houses.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
