Greens leader resigns

Tasmania Greens leader Peg Putt announced her resignation on July 7 after 15 years in parliament, with Nick McKim replacing her as leader.

"I have seen off the political leaders who attempted to see off the Greens ... I also feel it is time personally for me to make a change", Putt said.

Putt has been Greens leader for six years. After a reduction in the size of the Tasmanian parliament she was the only sitting Green from 1998 until 2002, when an electoral comeback resulted in four Greens MPs.

Some highlights Putt nominated of her time in parliament were the apology and compensation to the Stolen Generations, gay law reform and the GE-free Tasmania bill.
