Paul Gilchrist's new play Dead Money is ostensibly the story of average Sydney couple, Michael and Wendy, as they search for their own home. "Buying a house is one of those unquestioned rites of passage in our society", says Gilchrist. "I'm not saying it's taken for granted — because it is obviously becoming harder to do. But it's the aspiration. The Great Australian Dream.
"A society where the greatest dream is private home ownership? If that's the dream, how deep is the sleep?"
But seriously, a comedy about real estate?
That's the framework, but the play explores the consequences of dedicating your life to playing house. Set here and now, Dead Money is aimed at the heart of contemporary Australia.
Thrown Together Theatre is a company dedicated to exploring and satirising contemporary Australian life in a mischievous and vibrant manner. We want our material to be political. Our aim is simple; big issues, but big laughs. Hard hitting, but not hard work.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
