The events in Los Angeles have exposed a deep rot in United States society, festering on racism and a growing polarisation between rich and poor. The "American dream" of democracy, decent living standards and peace has become a nightmare of decaying cities, mass poverty and streets filled with angry people. SEAN MALLOY spoke to observers and activists in the US to prepare these reports on a system in decay.
