Students get organised for Bush visit
Students across NSW are getting organised for a "Stop Bush! Stop Howard!" student conference on June 1 aimed at building the protests when the US president comes to Sydney for APEC in September.
Sydney Resistance organiser Simon Cunich told Green Left Weekly that the response from students across the state was "extremely positive", with Wollongong Students Against War and activists and groups from the Newcastle area keen to get involved.
The one-day conference will feature Terry Hicks, father of Guantanamo Bay inmate David Hicks, as well as Sydney University academic Dr Tim Anderson, who will speak on responding to the "war on terror". A panel focusing on real solutions to climate change will include Dr Mark Diesendorf from the Institute of Environmental Studies at UNSW, and Steve Phillips from Rising Tide in Newcastle.
The conference is designed to be attractive to all students interested in radical solutions to war and climate catastrophe. It will also be a forum to discuss mobilising students for the Stop Bush! Stop Howard! convergence in Sydney in September.

By now we all know that the rich get richer under capitalism. But many are astounded at the incredible pace this takes place.
"Without Green Left Weekly, freedom of press and public truth-telling in Australia would be gravely ill."
